Below is a listing of the course topics . . .
- Welcome Page
- Table of Contents
- Materials that you can use
- You can use pen or brush for this course.
- Pen – A recommended pen is the Pilot Parallel Calligraphy Pen 6.0mm (purchase online at Amazon or others)
- Brush – 10mm wide flat-brush or similar . (introductory brushes are around $5 to $10). The course notes have been designed around this ( 3/8th inch, 10mm) size. A Winsor & Newton brush or any brush with spring is acceptable. Curry’s, Michaels, or even a local paint and wallpaper store will have these available.
- A palette to thin paint.
- Cup for water and mixing paint.
- Acrylic Paint – red, black, or dark colour. I recommend picking up a few tester paints for a $1.00 each. You don’t actually need much paint as it lasts quite long when thinned properly.
- Some extra paper (no much, just regular bond paper, nothing special as it is for practice)
- I spend roughly 50 minutes in my video explaining popular calligraphy materials and how to care for them.

Steve, you should send this to all members of the Hamilton Calligraphy Guild, if you’ve not already done so.n it is such a fabulous book. If not, you could send it to Ann Kolkin the president of the HCG. Her e-mail is kolkina_44@hotmail.com.
By the way, I am trying to put your e-book onto a memory stick to take to UPS to ask them to make me a hard copy, since their printers have much higher resolution than mine. Do you know how to do that a a Mac? I’m a computer dunce.

Thanks Susan! I am not a mac user, but i suspect it is as easy as inserting the key, then drag and drop the file onto that new drive. Does that help? Thanks for your comment, and I am glad you like it! Cheers Steve
I have no experience with a brush can this course be used with a calligraphy pen?
Yes, absolutely! Exemplars are both brush and pen.
Looks like a great course. I like that you are using the parallel pen.
I’m the webmaster for Escribiente (ABQ, NM) and I mentioned it on their Facebook page.
Does Toronto have a FB page to link to?
Hi Crispress,
Thanks for your comment, and I am glad that you liked the book. The CAGT does not have a facebook page. Our website is the main place to post information, but we do have a twitter account too.
Cheers
Steve
