  1. Hi, is there a calligraphy course that’s something like “intro to calligraphy” and you learn the history, background and techniques of all the different types? Thanks.

  2. Hello Toronto!!
what a magnificent guild you have ! I am looking for a correspondence course, would there be any instruction from the Toronto Guild for such a thing?
Steve, would you consider the GOTHIC class as a correspondence?
or if anyone else is offering a particular hand?
    cheers,
    Kate

    • Thanks Kate! The Gothic course is primarily a live course. Calligraphy is best taught in a live setting. But having said that I recognize that this is not always possible. As a result I have been considering offering a series of on-line courses similar to some previous courses I created (http://gimpmagazine.org/courses). These are doing quite well, and I would like to create new courses for authentic hand done calligraphy teachings.

What you would get with my new offering of online course would be:
      -course notes
-video based lessons (from end to end) that one could watch on TV, Laptop, tablet or even phone
      -exemplars (that you could print)

I would also like to offer a skype based service as well as a review service. A student could send me a set of sample work (hardcopy or via dropbox) and I would review and comment on that work. I am still sorting this out. I also have to determine what kind of demand there would be. I am considering a kickstarter or similar service to seek funding in advance. Preparing an online course is a massive amount of work from research, to shooting video, to writing, editing and production. I have created a full outline, but before I go to the next step I would need to secure funding somehow.

I am planning on selling the Gothic Course Notes / Exemplars and offer a review service. Kate, does that help?

      Cheers
      Steve

      • Hi Steve!

        SKYPE! great idea!
would prepaying for the online course be helpful for initial financing?
ok…looking for how I can support your efforts…please keep me posted.
        thank you for responding.
        gratitude,
        kate.

  7. Scribus’ course is very, very nice. Although I did learn a lot on Scribus on my own this course gave me the edge I was missing and clarified many points.

Looking forward to start the Digital Arts Course now as I want to get a decent grasp on GIMP and on InkScape!
